"Change Starts with Me"

Image
Change. It's a word that carries immense power and potential. We often hear people say, "If you want to see change in the world, be the change." This simple statement holds a profound truth: change starts with me.      Change is a constant and something that is inescapable. We change for a purpose, but unless we dig deeper, it's impossible to say if it will be good or harmful for us. Although changing oneself can be difficult, most changes are for the better as we mature. Change does not necessarily mean leaving behind the past, but for me, it means using the past as an opportunity for growth that will help me become more mature and aware of my surroundings. Yes, there are many things that influence us, but the truth is that we can only change if we make the effort; it is not something that is forced; rather, by considering who we are, we try to change for the best.      As I reflect on this notion, I realize that change is not an ex...

"The One Who Cared for Me the Most"

Image
This year has gone by pretty fast, and maybe for some it is quite boring but I say it is not. Many challenges have tested me throughout this year, countless battles that I've yet to conquer but amidst all of these, there is one who stood by my side patiently. She who guided me without a word and showered me with love, she who protects me from the evil of the world, and she is my mother.       Mother's day for me is a very special day, of course it is for all of us but it just holds a special place in my heart. I cannot express my love and gratitude towards my mother easily, it is not that I don't want to but it is simply because I tend to shy away. On this day, I can express it freely and easily maybe because of the day but nonetheless I still feel happy to say it. For all the things that they have done they deserve to be honored and pampered on this special day. They deserve to sit back and relax and to enjoy the day, they deserve a b...

"A Quarter Full of Humbling Experiences"

Image
Reflecting on this quarter I must say that the experience that I’ve gathered has influenced my growth and my improvement as a whole, it is mainly because I’ve been surrounded with my positive friends that has greatly increased my confidence and helped me get through this quarter. I can honestly say that this shift has benefitted me in more ways than one. I also came to the realization that in order for me to develop, I need to know what or who I genuinely like. My desire to better comprehend and explore who I am was another one of my objectives. It is not an exaggeration to claim that if we put our minds to anything, even the most mundane things may be changed because a change starts with me.      This quarter is clearly more difficult than the previous ones, and with that in mind, it took me a while to physically and emotionally acclimatize because the material was so challenging. But happily, with the help of my instructors and friends, I was ab...

Kannawidan: Intayon Ilocos Sur!

Image
Ilocos Sur is located in the northern tip of the island of Luzon. Their settlements were mostly found in the plain territories particularly along the coastlines and so the place was called Ilocos, which means people of the lowlands. According to history, colonizer Juan de Salcedo explored the region in 1572. Two years later, he established the Ciudad Fernandina in what is now known as Vigan by the orders of Governor-General Guido de Lavezares. The region however erupted in various uprisings all throughout the Spanish era. Thus, proposals were submitted to the Real Audiencia to divide the region. Thus on February 2, 1818, Provincia Ilocos was split into Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur by virtue of a Royal Decree. This is the date that Kannawidan Ylocos commemorates every year.      Kannawidan Ylocos is an annual festival that celebrates the founding of the province of Ilocos Sur, Philippines every 2nd of February. A half-month celebration, its activ...

Viva Vigan, Longganisa Festival!

Image
Festivals are a celebration of life; these celebrations bring peace and joy to humanity. In my municipality of Vigan every year they celebrate a fiesta’s that every January 25, the Vigan City Fiesta is held. It is observed on the day of St. Paul the Apostle's conversion feast. Vigan City's patron saint is St. Paul. Prior to becoming a Christian, St. Paul was Saul, a fervent persecutor of Christians. His name was changed to Paul after he had a close encounter with Jesus Christ while traveling to Damascus, and he underwent many sufferings and perils in order to carry the gospel to distant locations.      Vigan’s main church, the Metropolitan Cathedral, is dedicated to St. Paul and it stands at the core of the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia. The major Catholic educational institution in Vigan that stands beside the church is also dedicated to the patron, the St. Paul College of Ilocos Sur. The Vigan City Fiesta u...

Don't Quit

Image
I can look back on the semester and see a number of experiences that positively impacted my overall development and improvement. It was a million times better in the second quarter. This is because I've been able to gather more friends that has a positive with me, which has given me more confidence. I can honestly say that this change has improved me a lot and it has a significant impact on my academic performance this quarter.      The second quarter of the school year was an emotional rollercoaster for me. At first, learning how to study for tests was one of my major problems, but as I figured that out, I discovered a lot about myself. By helping me learn what approaches to studying work best for me, this experience has improved my ability to learn. However, there are now additional stories to read, puzzles to solve involving math, discoveries to be made, and HTML tag to finish. On the other hand, my problems have become worse this time,...

Every year on December 25, people celebrate Christmas. The event commemorates the anniversary of Jesus' birth. Christmas is a time for joy and love, and on this day, people desire for each other to be free of all negativity and evil. Also Thanksgiving through Christmas are festive and joyful times in everyone's lives.       During my Christmas vacation, I began to decorate our house with Christmas lights, etc. My mother brought me to her office for the Christmas program, and I received money from her officemates. On December 16, I attended the Misa de Aguinaldo in our barangay and completed it. On December 25, I wake up early to greet my family and relatives and receive a gift from my grandmother, grandfather, aunties, and uncle. This is a special day to me because I received a gift that I did not expect to receive, and after that, me and my family went to the church to celebrate the birth of Jesus.     I finally realized how wonderf...

"Let's Concentrate on the Physical, Mental, and Overall Wellness of Every Child!"

Image
The Philippines declares November to be National Children's Month each year. This month-long event strives to give Filipino kids access to a healthy environment, a quality education, and safe healthcare. "Kalusugan, kaisipan, at kapakanan ng bawat bata ang ating tutukan!" is the theme of National Children's Month 2022.      The national hero of the Philippines, Jose Rizal, famously said that young are the country's future and that investing in children is essential for the welfare of the following generation. Empathy is another factor driving this celebration. The majority of families in this third-world nation suffer financially, and children disproportionately shoulder the price. This month's theme is "How Can We Help and Support Them?". The Philippines was the first nation to ratify the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child on November 20, 1989. For the purpose of helping disadvantaged children, the National Youth C...
